Safety Management Updates & L77
A reminder that Adventure RMS, who provide the AALA inspection service on behalf of HSE, also issue safety management updates. Recent examples include sharp edges and rope cuts, statement in relation to the Haverfordwest SUP fatalities, product recalls and MAIB reports.
Adventure RMS have also recently clarified that one of the original licensing guidance documents (L77) has now been removed by HSE who have clarified that this is because parts of the guidance are either:
- Out of date, e.g. the qualifications matrices
- Not in line with current policy and practice
- Aimed at the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS), which no longer exists, or
- Available elsewhere, e.g. in other HSE guidance, in the legislation itself or in industry-led guidance.
Tim Morton quoted that Adventure RMS are looking to increase their level of support as this guidance has now been removed.
HSE have also clarified that while Adventure RMS can provide support as part of the inspection process it is the responsibility of the licence holder to ensure they have access to their own source of competent advice to comply with the conditions on the licence.
SAPOE doesn’t usually circulate all of these safety updates individually but do recommend to members to check the Safety Management Updates page whether you are a license holder or not.
