Residential OE Bill Response
Following several years of hard work from Liz Smith MSP, her staff, Scottish Government and members of the residential outdoor learning community the Schools Residential Outdoor Education Bill has passed the Stage 3 vote. Here is SAPOE’s response;
The Scottish Advisory Panel for Outdoor Education (SAPOE) collaborates with the Scottish Government and other partner organisations to develop best practice in the design and safe delivery of outdoor learning. Our vision is to achieve regular, high-quality, progressive outdoor learning for all of Scotland’s young people.
We welcome the development of the Schools Residential Outdoor Education Bill, and are keen to support this initiative as part of the wider offering of outdoor learning experiences provided to young people during their educational journey. We have drawn on our members’ expertise and feel we have made a constructive and worthwhile contribution to the Bill. We will continue to work with the Scottish Government to ensure the Bill has a positive impact on our young people’s lives.
SAPOE recognises that the residential outdoor sector is extensive and diverse. We are committed to working with all organisations who share our vision of a Scotland where all young people can experience the benefits of learning outdoors across a variety of settings and opportunities, on a regular and ongoing basis.
